The Reservoir Pod

The Reservoir Micro Pod has a queen-sized bed, en-suite bathroom, kitchenette & work-from-home setup as well as a private covered deck. The kitchenette is complete with a bar fridge, gas stove, microwave, sink, basic cooking utensils, shelf and counter space.

THE POD

This micro pod was built off-site by the talented Moriko team and co-designed with the property owner with sustainability and affordability in mind. The pod is set atop the property’s water reservoir, reclaiming unused space intended primarily as a daily second work-from-home and secondly as an additional guest space for rental.

The compact pod (14.5m2 interior) is built from solid reclaimed pine, is black charred on the outside, has a corrugated roof and boasts folding doors that open up 3m to an outdoor deck with mountain and sea views.

SLEEPING

The pod offers a comfortable queen bed, wardrobe space and compact bathroom with some unique features (like the rustic, home made concrete basin, using sand from the property).

LIVING

The functional if tiny kitchenette is complete with a bar fridge, gas stove, microwave, sink, basic cooking utensils, shelf and counter space as well as a storage cupboard.

Space has been made to accommodate shoes, coats, hats and keys and offers a dedicated work-from-home area as well as a mini wood-burning closed combustion fireplace.

The deck has a gorgeous view of the sea and a rustic table and chairs. The fire pit area in front of the pod is available to pod guests.

The micro pod is perfect for anyone wanting to visit Cape Town while “working-from-home”, visiting Cape Town for business or looking for an affordable holiday on a magical property.

THE AREA

There is direct access to the Sandy Bay Dunes Nature Reserve via a back gate on the property, where guests can walk about 200m up the hill, onto the sand dunes and down to Sandy Bay and across to Llundudno along the hiking paths, as well as onto the Shipwreck Trail. The top of the dunes are popular with groups and families for picnics. Please look out for the sign to the beach, follow the path behind the main house (not by the deck and pool) and respect our privacy.

Bathroom and kitchen basics available. A french press (plunger) is available for coffee. 

Self check-in with lockbox if personal check in is not available.

The property is not ideal for very young mobile children due to open pools, stone steps, deck drop offs etc.

Unfortunately pets are not welcome. The owners have dogs of their own.

Please respect other residents/guests on the property and their privacy. Except for the pod and personal deck, the rest of the garden is not for guest use. However, please feel free to ask us if you would like to try anything out of our kitchen garden.

The Reservoir pod is built on top of our water reservoir. During summer, we require more irrigation and water for the eco-pool and this has to be replenished by pumping water into the reservoir twice a week for a few hours, usually on Mondays and Thursdays. We cannot avoid this. It’s part of the charm of this cabin.

The chickens have their coop behind the pod and can be heard clucking in the morning and during the day.

OUR RECOMMENDED EXPERIENCES

If you’re a surfer, Sandy Bay and Llundudno are both in walking distance.

If you’re a family with kids and dogs, welcome to heaven.

This place is a paradise for hikers, trail runners and cyclists, and even the less fit can enjoy an almost flat walk (from the top of the dunes) along the contour of the mountain, with incredible views across to Camps Bay, the 12Apostles and Lions Head. This location literally cannot be beaten.
