Rockwood Karkloof Farm House

Situated on Spitzkop Farm in the Karkloof Nature Reserve, the Farm House is a luxurious, contemporary, spacious farm home that offers self-catering accommodation sleeping up to 8 adults in 4 bedrooms with 3.5 bathrooms. Large doors and windows open onto expansive verandas, inviting dams and offer stunning views of the indigenous forest and grasslands.

THE HOUSE

Rockwood Farm House was architecturally designed by Richard Stretton and styled by Angela Shaw from Koop Design in 2009. The brief was to design a home that lives in harmony with the environment. The black exterior paint gives camouflage in summer and warmth in winter. The house has recently been redecorated by Wendy Douglas from Douglas and Douglas. The palette reflects the changing seasons of the forests and farmlands, from bright green in summer through orange to dry yellow in winter.

LIVING 

Relax on sun loungers, swim, paddle or tube in the dam, enjoy ball games in the beautifully landscaped country garden, explore walking, hiking and biking trails, and on colder evenings, feel at home in front of warm fireplaces with board games or books. The house is equipped with an upstairs attic with a ping-pong table.

THE AREA

The Karkloof Nature Reserve is a short drive through the farm and is for exclusive use by all Rockwood guests. The Reserve boasts one of South Africa’s largest indigenous forests, many dams, waterfalls and weirs with birds, fish and game. The property has over 25km of well maintained hiking, mountain biking and trail running trails.

GOOD TO KNOW 

Kitchen Basics are provided; salt, pepper, oil, tea, coffee, sugar and milk.

Firewood is provided.

Tubes and canoes are provided for fun on the dam.

Fenced in Jungle Gym/Trampoline area meters away (for exclusive use by Rockwood Guests).

The property is 20 minutes drive into the town of Howick.

The Farm House is not suitable for children who can’t swim as it is situated on a dam with no fence.

BOOKING TERMS 

5% cancellation fee if cancelled more than 28 days prior to arrival

25% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 28 days prior to arrival

50% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 14 days prior to arrival

100% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 7 days prior to arrival or no show.

Should cancelled accommodation be resold, cancellation fees shall be refunded less a 10% handling charge
