Mountain Cottages at Starry Starry Night

Located on the iconic Route 62, between Montagu and Barrydale and a quick 2½hr drive from Cape Town, Starry Starry Night Eco Mountain Reserve is located in the foothills of the rugged Langeberg Mountains. Conveniently close to surrounding towns yet far away for that middle-of-nowhere feeling so you can properly switch off.

LUNA & GAIA COTTAGES

Both of the two mountain cottages have a queen-size bed, and a sleeper couch for a child (max 1 child under 12 years per cottage). The two cottages stand side-by-side with unhindered views of the mountains valleys and surrounding fynbos while still offering privacy.

Each cottage can sleep a maximum of two adults and one child under 12. Children under 2 stay free while children between 3 and 12 pay 50% of adult rate. Children 13 and over are considered adult and will need the booking of a second cottage.

LIVING 

Starry Starry Night is completely off-grid, and is sustainably powered through green energy. The philosophy of the owners is to conserve, protect and grow the reserve they are privileged enough to call home. A strong environmental focus flows through everything that happens on the reserve, from the garden compost bins and eco detergents to the organic herb and veggie garden, water conservation, renewable energy and a general drive to tread ever more gently on this planet. It is after all the only one that we know of that can sustain our species.

Both of the mountain cottages have a queen-size bed, and a sleeper couch can be added on request. The two cottages stand side-by-side and have been orientated in a way that all guests have unhindered views of the mountains valleys and surrounding fynbos while still offering privacy. That said, the cottages lend themselves particularly well to two couples or a small family who want to break away together for a few days to soak in the pristine nature of the reserve. An inter-leading doorway connects the two cottages on the front stoep, and can be unlocked for easy access between the cottages. The accommodation is pet-friendly to sociable and well-behaved dogs (max 1 dog per unit) by prior arrangement.

Outdoor facilities include a communal woodfired hot tub, a communal pool as well as a fire pit.

THE AREA

With over 370ha of pristine mountain wilderness to explore and experience your stay at Starry Starry Night can be as action-packed or relaxed as you want it to be. During the day you can relax on your patio just soaking up the views stroll through the organic herb garden, cool off in the communal pool or warm yourself up at the newly wood-fired hot tub (kolkol) or go for a stunning hike to explore the hills valleys and natural rock pools of this beautiful piece of land. You can also enjoy mountain biking and there are some gorgeous cliffs that lend themselves to trad rock climbing. At night enjoy a tasty braai or head down to the Star Deck and send your dreams and wishes off into the glittering night sky…

GOOD TO KNOW 

Child Policy: Each chalet can sleep a maximum of two adults and one child under 12. Children under 2 stay free while children between 3 and 12 pay 50% of adult rate. Children 13 and over are considered adult and will need the booking of a second cottage. 

Access: The final stretch to our reserve is via a 2km long access road that consists of a combination of gravel and concrete sections. We are continuously improving the road surface, and while it is certainly no highway, our guests have had no problem reaching us even with super compact cars like VW up! and compact cars like Ford Fiesta, but it is not suitable for very low-slung sports cars. Just take it slow, and enjoy the adventure of travelling to this beautifully remote corner.

Pet Policy: Maximum one dog is allowed by prior arrangement with management and must conform to the following requirements:
- They must be socialised and controllable. We have our own dogs on our property and, though we have fences around our property, there is a good chance the dogs will meet each other along the way.
- Any dog poop around the homestead area and on any trails must be bagged and removed.
- Under no circumstances must dogs interfere with local wildlife and chase or kill other animals or birds.
- Our furry friends are not allowed to swim in the pools or climb onto or lie on couches and beds. Please help us keep our gorgeous 100% pure cotton sheets bright and white.

Balance due 2 weeks before arrival.

Cancellation Policy

If cancelling 7 days before arrival, forfeit 100% of the booking total.

If cancelling 14 days before arrival, forfeit 75% of the booking total.

If cancelling 21 days before arrival, forfeit 50% of the booking total.

If cancelling 30 days before arrival, forfeit 25% of the booking total.
