THE CAMP

Matla Noka provides you with exclusive use of the entire tented safari camp, sleeping up to 8 guests in 4 luxury, en-suite safari tents. With one game drive per day, a personal chef (bring your own food/ mealtime ingredients), paddle boat and kayak, relax soaking up the sunlight from the swimming pool and explore the river.

4 Extra kids can be accommodate on mattresses at no extra charge. Mattresses will be provided.

Each tent has electricity and offers a fan as well as heater and heated blankets for cooler nights.

LIVING

Enjoy dinner al fresco around the camp fire at night and during the day, after your game drive, relax around the swimming pool. Adventure seekers can take a dip in the river or explore the waters on a paddle boat or kayak.

The open-air heated jacuzzi is the perfect spot to relax in the evening and enjoy a drink while watching the sunset over the Sterkrivier river.

Lounge, dining area and fully equipped kitchen (with gas stove, fridge/ freezer, microwave and kettle) within the main area known as The Nest. Outside braai area with facilities.

THE AREA

Game drives and birdwatching are some of the most popular activities. Those with an adventurous side are invited to enjoy hiking trails, mountain biking and trail running (40 km routes are available on site), as well as swimming and kayaking in the river. A submerged photographic hide is also available as is fishing, where carp, bass, kurper (briem) and catfish are most commonly caught.

GOOD TO KNOW

A personal chef is available on request (included in rate). Chef Ephraim, his wife Johanna and Norman are at your service, always with a smile and ready to help with whatever you may need. Just bring your food and drinks along.

Enjoy the luxury of having the entire camp to yourself, offering complete privacy and exclusivity.

Firewood is provided, as are ice (ice machine) and filtered drinking water.

The camp has WiFi.

Bring along a warm jersey as nights can get cold, especially near the water; walking shoes; camera; sunscreen and sunhat; binocular; fishing rods and gear.

Children of all ages welcome; between 0-10 years stay free; 11-18 years pay 100%.

No pets allowed; no smoking in the tents.

Deposit

50% of total due to secure the booking within 7 days of receipt of invoice.

Balance due 7 days prior to arrival.

Cancellation

If cancelling 14 days or less prior to arrival, forfeit 100% of deposit.

If cancelling 21 days prior to arrival, forfeit 50% of deposit.

If cancelling 30 days prior to arrival, forfeit 25% of deposit.

Think self-catering, but low-key luxury

We had the most wonderful bush retreat at Matla Noka for a family reunion getaway.

Gathering from all parts of SA (and some from overseas), we arrived just as the sunset started painting the sky in an array of colours; we opted to hit the firepit boma with a sundowner in hand right then and there – we could worry about the luggage later. After all, there is nothing like an African sunset and the inviting setting around the fire instantly sucked us in – one we were not going to miss.

The main camp is kept in excellent condition – a large kitchen and dining-room-come lounge area overlooking the river provided a rejuvenating spot to socialise during meal times and lounging around during the day. The tented suites are spacious with hotel quality comfort bedding, and the hot showers did not let us down in the cold winter mornings/evenings!

Think fully self-catering, but with low-key luxury as we had our own private chef to prepare all meals. This was truly amazing as it meant we got more quality time to spend together as a family without the worry of cooking up a storm and cleaning up thereafter for a group of 7.

The experience is highlighted and reflected in the attention to detail. The subtle turn-down service in the evening meant that we could climb into a warm bed every cold night as our electric blankets were switched on and beds prepared for us. Game drives provided a gentle safari experience, with an epic sundowner spot not to be missed. We explored the hiking trails and ventured out on to the calm river in the paddle boats provided. We loved our time around the crackling fire, telling stories and soaking up the bliss of nature. A cupboard full of board and card games was a great touch for an avid ‘gaming’ family.

Matla Noka gives you the luxury of a tented bush lodge but with exclusivity, being the only guests there we could feel at home. Our only mistake was that we booked too short a stay.

A special thanks and compliments to Donovan, Chef Ephraim, his lovely wife, Johanna, and Norman for looking after us during our stay.
