THE COTTAGE

The Gemsbok cottage has two bedrooms, a large patio and a fully equipped kitchen. This cottage also has it's own bicycle shed and storeroom. It is located on the western section of Aardvark Bioreserve, near the main entrance and to the mountain biking and hiking trails.

LIVING

Experience uninterrupted valley and mountain views from Gemsbok Cottage. The indoor living space is light and airy, made possible by the high ceilings and natural toned finishes. Here you will find the neat and tidy kitchen and pantry adjacent to a dining room table and lounging area with a cosy indoor fireplace. Wifi is available as well as air conditioning.

The open-plan living space effortlessly flows onto a veranda with outdoor dining and seating. This undercover space is fitted with a braai, suited for long evenings with only the calls of nature for company. 

THE AREA

This cottage is situated on Aardvark Bioreserve a magnificent, 4900 hectares nature or bioreserve and farm-to-table family venture known for conservation. There exceptional mountain bike trails, hiking, sunsets and organic food. Aardvark Bioreserve is both a game reserve and a working farm. It is situated on the R323 between Ladismith and Riversdale 3.5 hours from Cape Town and 2 hours from George Airport. Access to the farm is on a tar road and to your cottage on a well-maintained gravel road, many of the other roads do however require 4x4 capabilities.

GOOD TO KNOW

Wifi is available but general phone reception can be intermittent.

The cottage is fenced to keep the plains game at bay.

Game on Aardvark Bioreserve includes Springbuck, Eland, Kudu, Orix, Giraffes, Ostriches, Blesbuck, Zebras, and of course Aardvark.

Organic vegetables/fruit are grown on the farm and you will receive a complimentary basket subject to seasonal availability. 

Free range chickens, lamb and various game meats can be purchased while visiting Zebra Cottage.

Kitchen basics are provided, including tea, coffee, olive oil, salt & pepper.

Firewood is provided.

The farm has an extensive network of carefully designed mountain bike trails on both the Eastern and Western sides of the reserve. These trails cater for both beginners (blue) and advanced (red)riders. There are various routes and segments including the unique network of “green trails” that carefully follow animal tracks. Trails range from 5km to 65km and can be downloaded on your Garmin.
