THE AREA

The area's mountainous scenery owes much of its rugged charm to the Palaeozoic sedimentary rocks, dating back to 355 million years ago. This valley can be visited throughout the year as each season reveals a gloriously secret beauty.

The area offers many outdoor activities, arts and crafts, tranquillity and relaxation. Surrounded by mountain trails, fruit orchards, olive groves and vineyards, the village of McGregor has maintained a rural peaceful ambience which is an inspiration to artists. There are walking/hiking trails, mountain biking, bird watching in Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve, a pottery studio, art galleries, cob house building and enjoyable meals at one of the many coffee shops, restaurants or pubs.

Explore the wine route of Robertson wine valley and spend quality time relaxing.

GOOD TO KNOW

Thornvilla is a working wine farm and also produces plums, apricots and various vegetables.

Activities on the farm include kayaking on the dam, bird watching, hiking (spot one of the springboks in the reserve), fishing in the farm dams, picnics, cycling and just resting.

The name Fossil Hills comes from the fossils that were and are still found on the farm which date back to the fish age of 355 million years ago.
